Meet Dr. Benjamin Simonton
BENJAMIN SIMONTON, DDS, MD
Dr. Simonton joined Harbor Light Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in 2015. After graduating with a BS degree from Michigan State University in 2005, he went on to earn his Doctorate of Dental Surgery degree from University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, where he found his calling in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He was the recipient of the Detroit Academy of Oral Surgery award for undergraduate dedication to the field and completed his residency at the Detroit Medical Center. In 2013, he obtained his MD degree from Wayne State University. Licensed in Ohio to practice both dentistry and medicine, Dr. Simonton is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons.
Dr Simonton is active in the local dental community and has served on the board for the Greater Toledo Dental Society. He is also the Chairperson for Give Kids A Smile and has advocated and lobbied in Washington DC for a variety of issues including improved access to dental care. Along with his fellow doctors at Harbor Light, he is engaged in reinforcing anesthesia training for staff in order to maintain the highest level of patient safety. He has lectured to the local dental community on subjects ranging from oral pathology to implant uses for oral reconstruction, and was the leader of a former Esthetic Alliance Implant curriculum for dentists who recently graduated.
His interests in the office vary widely in scope. He enjoys making wisdom teeth as easy as possible, knowing that this is often the patient’s (and family’s) first experience with surgery and anesthesia. He also takes great pride in providing comprehensive and the most up-to-date treatments in restoring a full smile with implants. This is also known as “Teeth in a Day” or “All-on-4.” Dr Simonton actively lectures in the dental community on this topic.
Dr. Simonton and his wife Robin, who is also a dentist, are active members of the community and their son’s school. His outside interests include cooking (low and slow BBQ), pretending he can still play basketball, fishing, “pontooning,”keeping several beehives with his father-in-law, learning tennis, and most importantly enjoying time with his family.
